Frequently asked questions

We recommend attending the course best suited to your current skill level. Instructors at the course will then be able to advise what your next steps should be.

Please read 'What's the difference between the courses?' to find out which course is best.

All sessions are completely free to attend, this includes any equipment you may need to use during the session.

  • Bronze/Silver courses we can provide a bike and helmet for you, but if you would like to bring your own, please do.
  • Gold/E-Bike Silver you should bring your own bike, helmet, and other safety equipment.
  • Suitable clothing to ride a bike. Sports clothes are a good option. No loose clothing where possible.
  • Waterproof and a warm layer (we still ride in the rain). Closed toe shoes.
  • A drinks bottle, snacks and any personal medical gear you need

If you do not have a bike we can bring one along for you, just let us know your height so we can make sure it fits.

For Gold courses and E-Bike Silver courses you should bring your own bike. If transporting your bike is an issue, again, let us know and we can bring you one of ours.

Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes are a must. Otherwise, dress appropriately for the weather - a light jacket and sunblock is always recommended.

Sure thing. Just use the registration portal above to cancel your booking if you're signed in. Otherwise, reply to your confirmation email and we'll sort it out. Make sure to rebook in the next course that works for you.

Unfortunately these courses are for adults only.

For kids aged 2- 8 years old we offer a drop in style programme teaching them how to ride called Kids Learn to Ride. If you have a teenager who is already riding a bike and who would like to upskill, please get in touch to see how we can help.

Our Adult Bike Skills courses are for people aged 18+.

If you have a teenager who is already riding a bike and who would like to upskill, please get in touch to see how we can help.

We can definitely help. Come along to a Bronze course and we will support you on your cycling journey.

If you have a group of people who would all like to improve their bike handling skills, you can register your interested for a private group booking. Please note your group would need the minimum participant numbers and we require at least 3 weeks notice in order to confirm contractor availability.

We are here to help. You can get in touch by emailing us on cyclingevents@at.govt.nz
